In the seven months that Michelle has been a client at TSB, we've been seeing a lot less of her. Over 100 pounds less. We asked her to share her journey at TSB and how it became about so much more than the number on a scale.
When was your first time in TSB and why did you come?
My first time coming to TSB, was April 13, 2018 for a Cardio Drumming event. I came because my friend Erica had really encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try a class outside of the home. That day changed my whole outlook on fitness.
We see the physical change in your body, but how have you mentally/emotionally changed?
Mentally my mindset is in such a better place. Of course I have bad days, so does everyone. My outlook on life has become so much more positive. I find myself smiling so much more. My heart is happy and that’s what really feels different. I’m definitely just a happier person. My family has seen the biggest impact, fitness has improved me as a mother. I also cry A LOT! But happy cries, I find myself sobbing over the silliest things, like when I’m running or even finishing a good workout at TSB. These are new feelings for me.
You recently hit a huge weight loss milestone. What was the hardest obstacle to get there?
The hardest obstacle was and still is myself. We are our biggest critics and while I thought in the beginning I’d never get to that weight loss goal, as I continued, time seemed to just pass, and before I knew it, I finally reached that point. I still over think things at times, but I’m learning to let things go and keep my head up.
What would you say to someone who has a significant amount of weight they’d like to lose but they don’t know where to start?
Don’t force yourself to do what everyone else is doing. Find what works for you. Start small, cut out a few things that you know are holding you back. Don’t feel bad because one thing works for someone else and it doesn’t work for you. We are all unique and different. Take a fun class, because having fun while losing weight makes it ten times better. It doesn’t feel like work at all.
With the holidays coming up, what advice would you give to someone who is concerned about being around so much candy, treats and heavy foods?
I think everything is good in moderation. If you’re super worried about being around certain foods, drink water, pack something you know you will enjoy eating, and if you want it, have it. The key for me is not cutting everything out. I feel like taking all the tasty stuff away makes me want it more, so I just enjoy it and make sure to keep it in small portions and keep myself accountable.
You started personal training not too long ago. How has the 1 on 1 experience helped you?
I love personal training. Heather has helped me learn so much. I was so hesitant at first, but training has helped me learn new workouts I never thought of even trying. I love seeing the strength and progress I make, I have definitely seen the difference. I plan to continue doing this as long as I can.
I just want to share that I wouldn’t have made my progress without the TSB community, the owners, instructors, & my fellow classmates; You all encourage me to come back, try new classes and to just have fun. We all seem to lift one another up. That’s an amazing gift. Thank you for being there for me and welcoming me the very first time I stepped into the studio.
